Slay The Spire Gets Review Bombed Hard Over ONE Name in StS 2's Credits

May 9, 20263 min read

Slay The Spire is being ruthlessly review-bombed on Steam. Not because of a game-breaking bug, but because Anita Sarkeesian is in the Slay The Spire 2 credits.

I was literally debugging some spaghetti code at 3 AM when I stumbled upon this absolute circus on Reddit. The legendary roguelike deckbuilder Slay The Spire is currently getting brutally executed on Steam. Why? Not because they dropped a patch that nerfed your favorite build, and definitely not because of some P2W garbage. Nope, it’s because of a single name listed in the credits of the unreleased sequel. Grab your Mountain Dew, let's dive into this glorious mess.

Collateral Damage: What the hell just happened?

So, Mega Crit has been working on Slay The Spire 2, and recently some credits for the game were revealed. Boom! The internet spotted a highly radioactive name: Anita Sarkeesian.

For the noobs out there, she was basically the final boss of the whole GamerGate drama a decade ago. Mentioning her name triggers instant flashbacks of forced agendas and Sweet Baby Inc controversies for a specific subset of gamers. But since Slay The Spire 2 isn't out yet, these enraged keyboard warriors decided to drag the original, beloved Slay The Spire to the town square and review-bomb it to oblivion. The Steam review chart is currently dropping frames and bleeding red.

Reddit is on Fire: The Good, The Bad, and The Unemployed

Scrolling through the 4.5k+ upvoted thread on r/gaming, I was dying at how unhinged the community is. There are a few clear factions in this war:

  • The Grudge-Holders: User mxza10001 delivered a flawless headshot by comparing these angry gamers to the "Japanese soldier who kept fighting 29 years after world war 2". Bro, GamerGate was a decade ago. It’s time to move on and touch some grass.
  • The Flexing Employees: The absolute top-tier comment from Rosstin316 just nuked the review bombers: "Headlines like this remind me just how employed I am." You really gotta have zero deadlines and way too much free time to mass-downvote a roguelike game over a sequel's credits. Even an unemployed guy chimed in: "Hey man I'm on disability and I don't do this shit. Don't put it on all of us unemployed people lol."
  • The Ignorance is Bliss Crew: A bunch of innocents were asking, "Part of me is curious to ask... who is she?" The pros immediately replied: "Ignorance really can be bliss sometimes. Trust me, you don't wanna know."
  • The Chinese Server Invasion: The ultimate plot twist? Chinese players are joining the review bombing campaign too. Western players are completely mind-blown: "Why are Chinese players review bombing the game?" Nobody knows, but it's pure chaos.

The C4F Verdict: GG or just sad?

Look, this whole situation is pure brain rot. Slay The Spire is a 10/10 game made by devs who actually care about the community. Strangling the original game because you saw a ghost from 2014 in the sequel's credits is peak clown behavior.

The lesson for game devs? The gaming community is a literal minefield right now. One wrong keyword or association, and your Steam page turns into a warzone.

As for the gamers: Stop being so incredibly fragile. If the game is fun, play it. If it sucks, refund it. Instead of raging over internet drama, maybe optimize your setup or get a game booster designed to reduce game ping to fix your lag spikes. Holding a 10-year grudge doesn't make you a pro gamer, it just makes you look like you desperately need a hobby.
