Indie dev Cakez grinded for 4 years on Tangy TD. He opened his Steam backend on stream, saw $245k in revenue, and broke down in tears. Here's the whole story.

Indie game dev is brutal, man. You grind for years, chugging energy drinks and debugging spaghetti code at 3 AM, and usually, your game releases to absolute crickets. But occasionally, the RNG gods smile upon a solo dev, and we get a wholesome mega-W.
Enter Cakez, the solo dev behind Tangy TD, who just got hit with a 6-figure jump scare.
Cakez spent 4 solid years building Tangy TD, a vibrant pixel-art tower defense game. It's the kind of chill, well-made indie title that sits at a very respectable 89% positive on Steam, but isn't backed by a million-dollar marketing budget.
While streaming, he casually opened up his Steam developer backend to check the stats. The moment the numbers loaded, dude literally burst into tears: $245,123 gross revenue. $197,847 net revenue. 28,078 units sold.
His wife, sitting just off-camera, immediately started cheering and hugged him. It’s an incredibly raw moment. Through his tears, the imposter syndrome hit him like a truck: "I feel like I really don't deserve this," he said.
He explained that the game started 4 years ago as a selfish passion project. But as he got married and had a kid, it morphed into a desperate hope to provide for his family by doing what he loves. Well, mission accomplished, boss.
The clip hit r/gaming and instantly blew up with over 12k upvotes. Gamers are notoriously toxic, but when they see a passionate dev win, they rally hard:
With AAA studios constantly pumping out unoptimized messes, predatory P2W mechanics, and massive microtransaction stores... seeing a solo dev win by just making a good, honest game feels amazing.
For the devs reading this: You don't need a massive MMO infrastructure running on a cloud VPS to make a successful game. Make something with heart, respect the players' time, and the gaming community will happily open their wallets.
Massive GG to Cakez. Enjoy the well-earned loot drop!
