Meet Notchkin: a $4.99 local-first macOS note-taking app that lives inside your MacBook's notch, complete with a hilariously passive-aggressive mascot.

Apple gave us the MacBook notch, and we collectively sighed. But one solo developer looked at that useless black bar and said, "What if I put a passive-aggressive notepad in there?" Enter Notchkin.
Created by Danny, a solo maker who candidly admits he has "the memory of a goldfish and the patience of a toddler," Notchkin was born out of pure frustration. He’d get a fleeting idea, freeze up trying to choose between 13 different bloated note-taking apps he’d installed and abandoned, and by the time he picked one, the thought was gone.
So he decided to repurpose the most wasted piece of screen real estate Apple ever forced upon us: the notch.

The Product Hunt launch garnered positive vibes and immediate interest from Mac enthusiasts:
This is peak Indie Hacking. Notchkin is a great reminder that you don't need a bloated microservice architecture hosted on a premium cloud vps to make something people actually want to buy.
By targeting a highly specific, native hardware interaction, offering a fair pricing model (say no to SaaS fatigue!), and injecting a healthy dose of humor, Danny created a product that stands out in a crowded market. If you are building your own side project, keep it simple, solve your own itch, and don't be afraid to give your app some attitude.
