I was just minding my own business, sipping my morning coffee, when I stumbled upon a Reddit thread that hit way too close to home. Are you guys getting spoon-fed the letters "A" and "I" until you want to throw up, or is your team's collective brain also smelling like burnt toast during standups?

The "10x AI Developer" Burnout Trap

OP (a frustrated dev on Reddit) just vented about how unsustainable the tech industry has become. It's not a sob story; it's just pure exhaustion. Management is shoving Opus (Claude) down everyone's throats, expecting developers to 10x their output. Sure, tickets are moving fast, but devs are "cognitively burnt to the crisp."

What’s the result? Standup meetings look like a scene from The Walking Dead. POs, managers, and devs are completely drained. Every time someone mentions "AI workflows," OP literally wants to vomit. The expectations are batshit crazy now: build a brand new app using 8 different AWS services routed through 6 microservices.

It’s gotten so bad that OP confessed: "Sad to say but I hope I get laid off." When a dev is actively praying for a layoff, you know the fun is officially dead.

The Comment Section is a Support Group Now

The post blew up with over 600 upvotes and turned into a massive therapy session. Reading the comments is equally hilarious and depressing:

1. The "I want out" veterans: A 44-year-old dev flat out said if there was an exit plan, they'd take it. Another senior with 20+ YOE got hit by a 10% global restructuring, doesn't even have the energy to interview (especially since companies use ai tools to screen resumes now), and is seriously contemplating opening a falafel stand. Respect.

2. The non-tech management trauma: Devs are losing their f***ing minds listening to upper management spewing buzzwords. The consensus? "I know it's a tool, let me use the tool without preaching about it every single day." Execs who can't even write a print statement are driving the hype train and making layoff decisions based on fantasy tech trends.

3. The Lone Survivor: One poor soul commented: "I’m the last developer on my team. They’re asking me to use AI to allow for more feature work. Wish me luck guys." RIP my dude.

4. The Sane Minority: Thankfully, a few lucky devs working on core, critical products still move at a human pace because their calculations require heavy, careful reviews. The burnout hellscape seems strictly tied to agencies and external client sweatshops juggling way too many apps.

Coding4Food's Take: Surviving the Hype Train

TL;DR: AI was supposed to make our lives easier, but management weaponized it to squeeze 10 times the juice out of us. Instead of writing code, we are now full-time AI-code reviewers. And let's be real, reading AI-generated spaghetti code takes way more cognitive load than writing it yourself. No wonder our brains are constantly crashing.

Survival tip: Pace yourself. Push back on ridiculous estimations. If your company's "AI-driven" culture is rotting your brain, quietly update your resume, spin up a cloud vps for some personal side projects, and start planning your exit. Your mental health doesn't have a rollback feature, so don't let a clueless manager destroy it.
