Bored of 8x8? Let's check out 1D Chess, a wild minimalist project taking over HN. No bloated frameworks, just raw vanilla JS and a solid lesson for devs.

Halfway through my third coffee and trying to figure out why my cloud vps is shitting the bed again, I stumbled upon the Hacker News collective mind losing its absolute shit over... a one-dimensional chessboard. Yes, you read that right. Over 600 upvotes for a single line of squares.
To spare you the click: It’s exactly what it sounds like. Instead of your standard 8x8 battlefield, some mad lad named Rowan441 squished the entire game into a single row. The pieces are just staring at each other down a narrow hallway like they're about to start a bar fight.
node_modules folder, no bloated framework cucking your RAM. It runs smoother than a freshly buttered slide. With a score blasting past 600, you already know what the basement dwellers are arguing about in the threads:
There’s a massive lesson here for all of us hoarding 50 dead side projects in our GitHub repos: Stop over-engineering.
You don't need to build a massive multiplayer 3D RPG with a microservices architecture just to impress people. If you have a weird, quirky idea, just bang it out in raw HTML, slap it on Github Pages, and post it. Sometimes the dumbest, most minimalistic shit catches fire.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go write some regex. Pray for me.
